Claremont House

Claremont House is a Nationally listed heritage property overlooking the township with commanding views over the Derwent River, Mount Fawkner, Mount Wellington and the Coign. It is conveniently located in walking distance to local shops, restaurants, MONA and public transport. Claremont House is 12kms from Hobart and just 20 minutes on public buses. Claremont House is significant on many levels, including architectural, archaeological, scientific and social. The original four bedroom house was constructed in 1830 and was named Claremont House after Princess Charlottes home in Suffolk, England. Successive owners has carried out additions and structural changes to the property and in 1889, Claremont House was set on 734 acres of land with numerous outbuildings and was one of the most valuable propertys in Hobart. Claremont House was scheduled to be demolished in 1995 after years of neglect and vandalism. It has now been meticulously restored to provide boutique Heritage accommodation with modern luxuries. The current property is set on 5 acres of heritage listed gardens and is home to a large number of animals including horses, peacocks, chickens, turkeys and ducks.
