Bongate House

As of the 3rd May 2016, Bongate House came under new owners, Anne & Mick. Bongate House is a Georgian Residence built in 1762, the house was once part of Appleby Castle estate (you can find a map of this in our dining room). We have been told but have yet to find evidence that Bongate House was once the home of the Castle Estate Manager and that the property next door was the old coach house. Bongate House sits on 1 acre of land and first became a guest house in 1966. The house itself is a Grade 2 listed building, it has seen many changes over the years and we seek to make a few more without detracting from its charm nor compromising the Grade 2 listing.Please bare with us as we embark on these changes. Situated in a Georgian property, Bongate House offers bed and breakfast accommodation in the Cumbrian countryside. Free parking is possible nearby, and free WiFi is accessible in the hotel rooms.

Bongate House originally dates back to 1760, and the spacious property has been refurbished to a modern style. Rooms each have a TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Some rooms are en suite, whilst others have shared bathroom facilities.

A farm style breakfast is included in the room rate, and prepared using locally purchased produce. Vegetarian options are available. Further pubs and eateries are located within a 10-minute walk.

Lake Windermere and the Lake District National Park are 30 miles from the property. Appleby Castle is a 10-minute walk from Bongate House whilst Appleby Railway Station is 0.5 miles away. Please inform Bongate House in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation.
Please note that there are only 2 dog-friendly rooms. Guests travelling with a dog must request a dog-friendly room at the time/after booking directly with the property and is subject to availability. An additional GBP 15 fee per dog per night applies and only a maximum of 2 dogs per room are allowed.
